The churches power is limited unfortunately for them, they do not hold a lot of political sway, nor reside above the law for the most part, though certain churches may get an exemption from minor laws if they directly conflict with the practices of the church. Churches tend to have members that relate to or feel that their worship to that specific god will help them in their life. Farmers worship Theodus and Linum for rain and harvest, soldiers pray to Durona and Jitem to keep them safe or help them find those who deserve justice.
Each church has it’s own practices and routines, worship at a time of day, a tithe to the church and prayer, is common across all deities, but then each one requires a more personal note. the church of Linum demands that farmers burn a portion of their crops to send them to him, Seph requires that his followers spend time adding to the beauty around them. Where Remir requires that his followers only sleep in areas where a shrine or monument has been built to him (any travelers that follow Remir will build small shrines to him at night, also most inns and way stations will have a monument to Remir due to this.) Some church rituals demand a sacrifice, while others are simply keeping within a code or having to perform certain tasks during the day, sometimes a combination of rituals are needed for some gods.
It isn’t all give though. On top of the fact that gods will actually answer the prayers and devotions of the people the church takes care of it’s own. They are a community and the church helps it’s followers in times of need. They will find places for their traveling faithful to stay tend to the sick or help rebuild after an accident. Different help is offered by different churches but churches of different gods will even help the followers of a church they get along with. All of this is, of course, on top of offering guidance and support for the faithful.
